After hearing great things about a new silver and palladium alloy I decided to give it a try. The palladium makes the material much nicer to work in whilst also giving it much better wearing properties. The hardness is at least double that of sterling silver (which is renowned for being very soft.
I had a lovely pear cut citrine floating around so thought I would make a nice high setting, creating an interesting cocktail style ring.
This "clean working" metal also allows fusing of joins which is fantastic for extra strength.
One of my great pleasures has always been hand making chains. From coiling then hand sawing the links, to seeing it all come together as each link is added. Once the links have each been soldered individually then they can be tested for strength and the entire thing is tumbled in stainless steel shot to bring out the shine.
